Unlike HeroQuest, which focuses on slow, room-by-room exploration and simple combat, Descent is a race against time. It features a branching campaign, modern character class progression, and a player as the Overlord who actively seeks victory rather than simply managing the dungeon.
The Monster Trail expansion introduces nine game modes, playable individually or in combination. It includes a new monster, new and exclusive special cards for all witcher schools, 200 new exploration and event cards, updated monster cards, and two new witchers: the Manticore and Ciri.
